Where to stay in Paris: Hotel Original Paris Review

Paris does small, cute boutique hotels really well, and I’ve just found my new favourite: the 4* Hotel Original Paris. PLUS – They are now open after lockdown!

We made a quick trip to Paris during halfterm. Eldest had mocks right after the break and I thought I’d get the 2 younger girls out of the house so she could revise in peace. Eurostar had £29 Paris tickets and I used United points to book the hotel. As I browsed hotel options, I stumbled upon Hotel Original Paris, at the edge of the Marias, one of my favourite areas of Paris.

I quickly booked it – and what a find! Hotel Original Paris stands out on Boulevard Beaumarche backlit with gorgeous purple facade and lavender lighting. It’s centrally located, by Place de la Bastille, the Marais Quarter and Place des Vosges. It’s in one of my favourite areas of Paris with stylish shops, museums, parks, beautiful architecture, famous monuments… The chic, lively, eclectic neighbourhood also offers plenty of cafés and restaurants.

This is not a bland corporate hotels. It’s one of those cool, quirky Paris hotels with friendly staff. Designed by Stella Cadente, the hotel is themed on “fantasy and poetry” and is elegantly designed, mixing original features, extravagant materials with some surprises thrown in – one room has a bathtub in the centre!

Hotel Original Paris Rooms

We booked a triple, and were upgraded to a quad, a large room with a king-sized bed and two twins which cleverly had a curtain to separate from them from the rest of room. This came in handy so I could wake up early to work and not disturb them.

Called “Alice in Wonderland: is was tastefully decorated with lavender walls, black and white striped arm chair, a small desk with a red velvet chair and black lacquer built in wardrobe.

The beds were comfortable with crisp white sheets. My only niggle was they had a plastic liner under the fitted sheet – which make an awkward sound when moving around. 😄 Having said that, I just read about the Paris bed bug manifestation – and now understand why they have them!

The bathroom was really lovely: Black and white ceramic tiles, fluffy terrycloth bathrobes and slippers and a rain shower. I was wowed by the toiletires. It was like walking into a French Pharmacy (going into a Pharmacy in France is one of my favrourite experiences. Lots of high-end cosmetics and it smells really good). This was a brand I was not familiar with, Uriage eau Thermale, and now I’m obsessed with it and trying to find it in the UK. The toilet was a separate room – which is nice since there were three of us.

Wellness and Sauna

The hotel has it’s own wellness room and you can book massages. There is also a fabulous sauna available for use. It’s kept in pristine condition, can easily fit 3 – 4 people, and has an adjoining shower and the fabulous Uriage eau Thermale amenities. We booked it for the early evening after a day of walking around Paris and before we went out for dinner.

Our attentive staff await you in this original, refined setting, where you can be sure of a warm, friendly welcome Wellness and relaxation area is offered at the hotel, which includes a duo treatment room and sauna in an intimate and warm atmosphere. A moment of serenity and soothing break to enjoy thanks to rituals and personalized treatments created to take care of you, your skin, your body. The treatments are made with French, natural and organic products “Huygens Paris”, based on essential oils for maximum efficiency.

Other important things

Wifi is free and works brilliantly. There’s coffee and tea from noon onwards. Quality newspapers – including the New Yorks Times (my favourite paper when I live din the US). Oh, and I don’t know how they did this but the rooms were at the perfect temperature. I usually wake up in the night really hot or really cold. They have air con too which I imagine is really useful in the summer.

Concierge and Reception Team

Fabien, Angela and Charles are the #BestReceptionTeamEver ). They are great at giving advice for local things to do. We especially loved the cat cafe suggestion!
