Sonoma date night: The girl and the fig

Peach Smash: Buffalo trace bourbon, muscardini vermouth, fresh peaches, rosemary, gingerly, lemon, organs bitters.

When you have kids, one of the best things ever is the invention of the “date night”. It’s precious time away with your significant other to just chat and enjoy life, without someone asking you what time is it or if they can order something from Amazon.

When we booked our stay at the Sonoma Mission Inn I was amazed at the amount of foodie restaurants in the local area and quickly decided that the girl and the fig would be the perfect place to enjoy quiet a meal with my husband.

I first heard of the girl and the fig when Sondra Bernstein opened it nearly 20 years ago, wowing Sonoma with her “Country food with a French passion”.  At the girls and the fig, food provenance is very important, with many of ingredients farmed by their own staff!

The atmosphere is very comfortable and low-key, the result being the perfect place to have a quality meal and fabulous glass of wine or signature house cocktail, like this Peach Smash (pictured above).

We sat outside in the patio, bathed in California sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed the moment. I can’t wait to go back!

Lavender mojito: Rum, lavender syrup, mint, lime juice, soda. It’s one of their signature house cocktails.

Fresh bread, butter and olives to enjoy with our house cocktails.

Grilled peaches smoked ricotta, hazelnut, vinaigrette, mizuna.

Wild flounder meunière, yukon potato puree, spinach, lemon caper brown butter.

Pan-seared pork tenderloin roasted pepper piperade, fingerling potatoes.

Profiteroles for dessert!

Chef’s choice cheese selections: fig jam, spiced nuts and fig cake.

We sat outside in the patio, bathed in California sunshine and just enjoyed the moment. I can’t wait to go back!

Before dinner, we stopped by the Tuesday night Sonoma Plaza Farmer’s Market.

Beautiful photos, the flowers and food. Looks like you had a great time out. I have not heard of Sonoma before I read your post. That’s the beauty of blogging and internet. Thank you so much for this post.

I should not have read this before eating, Susanna! It looks absolutely delicious and having one of those cocktails in the Californian sunshine before a meal there really appeals right now. Thanks so much for inspiring – and making me hungry – on #FarawayFiles

Oh my goodness! I am teary eyed right now. I grew up in Sonoma County. And, I miss it. I grew up all around the area that you visited.. So many memories.

The fires last year devastated so much of the area and many, many people that I know lost everything. In one family, 3 generations all lost their homes. I wrote an article about the area b/c they need tourism to return in order to survive. I am so happy to see that you went there. <3
