Nights out, Olympic rowers and The Duchess of Cambridge’s green gown

A Modern Mother with Steve Redgrave

On Friday I was a guest of BP at the Our Greatest Team Rises gala event at the Royal Albert Hall. My main mission was to chat with five time Olympic rowing champion Steve Redgrave!

Olympic medallions

He showed us the Legends Collection, a fund raising initiative where you can collect 12 medallions representing British athletic legends. All profits raised go directly towards giving Team GB and ParalympicGB athletes the support they need for London 2012 and beyond.

A Modern Mother wishing #ourgreatestteam good luck!
After meeting Steve, I wandered over to the Cadbury exhibit, where I joined thousands of others wishing #ourgreatestteam good luck in the 2012 games.

Circle Bar at Royal Albert Hall

Just an aside, here's the Upper Circle Bar at the Royal Albert Hall. I worked there when I first came to the UK 22 years ago! Times have changed, when I was a bar maid there I had to add up all the drinks in my head. Now I see there is a computerised cash register.

Dutchess of Cornwall at #ourgreatestteamrises in Green Geek Goddess Dress

And the highlight of the evening was when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge entered the Hall. Everyone stood, and the spotlight followed the Duchess and her fabulous emerald green gown. Even from the rafters of the Royal Albert Hall, my skin pricked and I could tell she looked like a Greek Goddess!

Wow, what an evening and you look very glam yourself. Kate looks unbelievable good in that green lace dress – how does she look fresh and young and yet so stately?

Yes, changed, still not used to her not being just “Kate”.

I am sighing heavily as I was invited to this but for obvious reasons (the small matter of 1500 miles) I couldn’t go. Looks like you had a wonderful time! (Just one thing – isn’t she the Duchess of Cambridge? Camilla is the Duchess of Cornwall, I think…) x

Snap (said in the British sense, not the American sense, which I still haven’t quite figured out). I’ve been in the US 22 years this month!
