Hamilton Tickets – 8 tips #HamiltonLDN

“What’s your name man?!”

Middle daughter has been obsessed with Hamilton the Musical since it took the world by storm a couple of years ago. We finally got to see it yesterday.

I’m happy to report back that it really IS spectacular and totally lives up to the hype. It’s all down to Lin’s clever lyrics – which encapsulates the rise and fall of one of America’s least known founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton.

You follow his meagre beginnings as a orphan in the hurricane-prone Caribbean to immigration to the US to battling the British to penning Constitutional  to starting the Treasury system.

Do you have a Hamilton obsessed child? Here’s your complete guide, including how including how to get Hamilton tickets London

First, check out the officer web site, there’s loads of info on the official Hamilton the Musical Q&A.

Below are my tips, after going through he stole process myself.

Your complete guide to getting the most out of Hamilton the musical in London!

1. How to get Hamilton tickets for London

It’s a very popular musical and sold out. Hamilton tickets go on sale every few months from the Hamilton website. Subscribe to their newsletter to be informed when the next batch is released. My advice is to be online right when then are available, and already have dates and seats/price bracket in mind. Buy straight away. They go quickly. A friend of mine got same day seats by showing up at the box office (open Monday to Saturday 10am-7.45pm). You can also try the daily lottery to purchase £10 tickets. It’s held weekdays and Sundays at 4 pm with a 22-hour entry window. You can apply for a maximum of two £10 Lottery tickets via the official HAMILTON App (download at HamiltonBroadway.com/app) or on-line at www.hamiltonthemusical.co.uk. Read my complete post here on how to get Hamilton tickets.

2. Pick your seats carefully

We loved our seats! It’s worth researching the best value seats at the Victoria Palace Theatre. There’s a great writeup here at Theatre Monkey. We picked Box D, behind the last row of the stalls. These tickets were £100 and half the price of stalls seating (£200) because they are labelled as having an “obstructed view”. The obstruction turned out to be the dress circle overhang, which meant you had to crane your neck to see the upper levels of the stage (which were hardly used). The box had its own door to a space with four comfortable moveable chairs, a little table for drinks (there’s butler service!). It’s raised slightly above the stalls, so you can see over everyone’s heads. It also had a power point so we could charge mobile phones. It felt pretty special.

3. Don’t forget ID and proof of purchase!

To nip ticket resales in the bud, the show is “ticketless”. Make sure to bring 1.) your original proof of purchase email, 2.) government issued photo ID and  3.) the credit card you used to purchase the tickets. Everyone in your party has to be present to enter. My daughter told me I also had to bring photo ID for the other members in the party – but that wasn’t true!

3. Get there early

Because of all this, you need to arrive at least 1 hour before the show. It’s a bit of a faff to get through security, but for my teen this just added to all the excitement. We used the time to get some merchandise, find the bathrooms, find out seats and take lots of photos and selfies (once the performance starts no photographs or filming is allowed).

4. Listen to the soundtrack

If your teen is obsessed,  you probably already know the rhythmical tunes and  lyrics. Some of the most popular are: “You’ll Be Back”, “Alexander Hamilton”, “The Room Where It Happens”, “The Schuyler Sisters”, “Wait For It”, “My Shot” and “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)”.

5. Buy the official T-Shirt

My daughter researched it and the official merchandise looked cheaper than anything online. Plus, you HAVE to get the official T-shirt! I even got one! We also bought the programme, a poster and a sweatshirt. They are all birthday/Christmas presents for the teens.

6. Read the biography

Ron’s Chernow’s 800+ page biography is what inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda to write the musical. It’s on sale at the merchandise store, or you can get at a bookshop. Read the story about how we got our copy here.

7. Make a day of it!

It’s worth figuring out what else you are going to do.  Hamilton the Musical is playing at Victoria Palace Theatre, which is literally across the street from the Victoria tube station.  You can hang out around what area. We keep with the American / Immigrant theme and ate at Tortilla in the Victoria Shopping Centre, which has in my opinion the best burritos in London! And very reasonable priced too. Victoria is close to Buckingham Palace (a good chance to see catch the changing of the guard) or perhaps have a wander around St. James’s Park, Buckingham Palace Gardens or Green Park.  Here’s 7 unique things to do in Victoria.

8. Follow the social media accounts of the cast!

Yes, you will want to do this and have this list handy, because you’ll want to tag them in your social posts!
