A river runs through it; a walk in the Thames

Do you remember my friend Charlene? You might remember seeing her at BritMums Live. She’s always in my back pocket – either I’m at hers or she’s at mine. We don’t let little things, like a flood, stop us! She invited me to her house for a cup of coffee. There was just the small issue of four feet of Thames water surrounding her house. But not to fear! Angler waders solved that problem.

Road closed

We left the cars on higher ground, and I put on my waders and went passed the “road closed” sign…

Flooded road

Oh what a lovely morning. Can you feel the sun on your face? Care for a walk IN the river?

In waders

Not sure about this look. Does my bum look big in this?

House built on stilts for flooding

Luckily Charlene’s house is built on stilts, so everything inside is dry.

Here’s the view from the third floor.

Even though it was chaos outside, inside was surprisingly quiet. We sipped coffee and listened to the water rushing through the rafters below us.

Despite the lovely lake side view, I’m still glad we don’t live on the river!

I live on the river opposite Charlene so when river floods I have most of those neighbours walking across lock & through our garden! Floods bring great neighbourly spirit and when river behaves it is beautiful place to live!
Fab pics! Our book club is called the 5 W’s (Women Willing to Wear Waist Waders)

Flooding is awful and here’s to houses on stilts. Great to see the power of friendship overcoming all. Fab pics.

Lucky her house in on stilts!

As romantic a notion it is to live beside a river or lake I don’t think I ever will as there seem to be more and more floods in the UK.

Hi Charlene, hope to see you again at BML

Gosh, that is a shock. Glad to see it didn’t come between you two and a cuppa though. Priorities!

Oh my gosh, that is worrying, but enough about the waders! yes, good job the house is on stilts!

This does make me glad we don’t live on the river either! She looks remarkably calm considering there is a big lake around her house…
