13 photos to make you fall in love with Lanzarote!

This was my first time visiting Lanzarote, and TBH I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

I love the idea of an average temperature of 22C and 3,000 hours of sunshine. When it’s cold in the UK – and I am including summertime – that is very tempting. Being only 4 hours away and serviced by budget airlines with lots of reasonable fares only adds to the appeal.

Of course I’m not the only one who thinks so – many Brits go to the Canaries for a bit of sunshine. It had got a bit out of hand and the government limited the number of visitors beds to 70,000 (down from 300,000). These are mainly based in the 3 resort towns of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.

The oldest of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote was formed more than 25 million years from volcanic activity that has continued through the 1800s. The result is a visually striking landscape with blacks, browns and white. Black and browns from the volcanic ash and rock and white from the houses painted with lime (it’s regulated).

I wasn’t expecting this stark natural beauty. If you are into aesthetics, Lanzarote is for you. Local artist Cesar Manrique dedicated his life to creating art works across the island by combining nature and art in some of the most striking natural displays I’ve ever seen.

This, combined with the weather and food make Lanzarote an ideal destination for families. The African climate mixes with the Spanish culture, and there’s a little something for everyone. Kids can expand their geology knowledge and experience volcanos firsthand and practice their Spanish. Art lover will be inspired by the landscapes and Manrique’s works. There’s water sports and water fun. And of course there are the wide sandy beaches and all-inclusive resorts.

Just landed in Lanzaorte and amazed at the colours! Everything is black, brown and white. It’s all very stylish! We started at Castillo de San Jose for lunch and then the Jardin de Cactus. Both were designed by renowned (and local) artist Cesar Manrique. It’s all so eyecatching. Off to dinner now! #familylanzarote #travelblogger #succlent #cactus #familytravel #familytravels #lanzarote #canaryislands #visitspain #myhappyplace #myhappycapture #colours #spain #visitspain #worldtraveller #FamilyLanzarote #lanzarote2017 #lanzaroteisland #wintersun #IslasCanarias #canaryislands #Canarias #spain❤️ #spaininstagram #spain_beautiful_landscapes #islandtour #volcanoes #familyvacation #familyfriendly #familyvacation #landscapes #familytravelmoment

Jardin de Cactus in Lanzarote is gorgeous and Instagram heaven! The work of Cesar Manrique, the garden sits in a reclaimed quarry of volcanic ash and has more than 7,000 plants from 350 different species from around the world. Green caucus set against blue skies and block volcanic rock make a stunning setting. Manrique finished the garden in 1990, and died just 2 years later. It’s the kind of place you could visit over and over at different times of the day. Literally every photo you take will be gorgeous! #familylanzarote #cactusofinstagram #worldingram #inspiremyintagram #worlderlust #TBIN #letsgoeverywhere #global_ladies #momentslikethese #momentsofmine #inspiringtravelpics #lanzarote #cactus #cactus🌵 #cactuslove #cactusgram #cactusgarden

Yesterday we had an epic tour around Lanzaorte. Perhaps the most striking was the drive through Las Montanas del Fuego – the Mountains of Fire! It’s the remains of the violent volcanic eruptions that took place on the island between 1730 – 1736. You can only visit via bus – and you aren’t allowed to get out of your vehicle. It’s very other-worldly. After you can have a meal in the panoramic restaurant El Diablo and eat food cooked in a furnace heated by the natural heat produced by the volcano. It’s pretty amazing! #FamilyLanzarote #lanzarote2017 #lanzaroteisland #wintersun #IslasCanarias #canaryislands #Canarias #spain❤️ #spaininstagram #spain_beautiful_landscapes #islandtour #volcanoes #familyvacation #familyfriendly #familyvacation #landscapes #familytravelmoment #myhappycapture #volcano #volcanoes

I never expected Lanzarote to be so beautiful. I knew there would be beaches, but I wasn’t prepared for the stark landscapes formed from volcanic activity that continued through the 1800s.The result is a visually striking landscape of blacks, browns, blues and white. Black and brown from the volcanic ash and rock, blue from the sea and white from the lime-painted buildings (it’s regulated). This pic was taken at the visitor’s centre at Timanafaya National Park. #FamilyLanzarote #lanzarote2017 #lanzaroteisland #wintersun #IslasCanarias #canaryislands #Canarias #spain❤️ #spaininstagram #spain_beautiful_landscapes #islandtour #volcanoes #familyvacation #familyfriendly #familyvacation #landscapes #familytravelmoment #worldingram #inspiremyintagram #worlderlust #TBIN #letsgoeverywhere #global_ladies #momentslikethese #momentsofmine #inspiringtravelpics

The Visitor Centre at Timanfaya National Park is where you can see first hand the power of volcanos. In small groups guides demonstrate examples of geothermal activity – allowing you to handle hot lava rock heated from the centre! The best part is you can eat at the El Diablo Restaurant, designed by Cesar Manrique, where they’ve cleverly harnessed geothermal heat from the earth 10 metres below to cook your meal! There are exhibits on volcanos and history and critically – they are in Spanish and English! A must see! #familylanzarote #travelandlife #ig_travel #travelingplanet #bestintravel #traveltips #travelgram #tourist #ilovetravel #instavacation #wanderlust #igtravel #travelpics #volcano #volcanic #lanzarote #yougottaeatthis #eeeeeats

Well if you insist! This was the most incredible restaurant for so many reasons! First off, it’s set in the middle of Timanfaya National Park overlooking the Mountains of Fire. It’s in the visitor centre where you can take a 40-minute tour through the volcanic wasteland. The centre and restaurant were designed by Cesar Manrique, the local artist that stylishly combines nature and art. The food in the restaurant is cooked in a furnace that harnesses the geothermal heat of the active volcano! But perhaps what I was most surprised by is the fact the wine is the top export from Lanzarote! We had this local white a few times and it was wonderful! #familylanzarote #travel #travelbug #foodandwine #spain #spanishwine #galiciadescuberta #lanzarote #lanzoratewine #myhappyplace #myhappycapture #winestagram
