Postcards from Costa Barcelona

Driving down the c-32, the main motorway that hugs the Costa Barcelona coast, I’m reminded of California. Oaks trees line the rolling golden hills and terra-cotta coloured houses dot the landscape as we pass the upscale town of Llavaneres. We pass an agricultural area and our tour guide points out tiny red dots that are strawberries! There’s a genuine giddiness on our mini bus. The sun is shining (it wasn’t when we left England at 9 am) and that alone is enough to put us all in very good moods.   I’m on a press trip to the region of Costa Barcelona to show off why it is good for families. “Where?” I hear you ask. You’ve certainly heard of Catalunya’s cosmopolitan capital Barcelona, and most likely Costa Brava, a popular coastal region in northeastern Spain.  But I’m talking about Costa Barcelona, one of three new tourist brands that encompass the Province of Barcelona, and is just 20 minutes from Barcelona-El Prat airport. Collectively they market themselves as “Barcelona es most mes” which translates as “Barcelona is much!”   Costa Barcelona may not as well-known as some of its neighbours. But that’s a good thing. It can be our little secret.   Below are a few pics from my trip. Enjoy!     First stop of the day … Wine tasting at Alta Alella @altaalella @bcnmoltmes #BMLcostabcn A photo posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 22, 2016 at 12:18pm PDT     At Alta Alella, the closest vineyard to Barcelona, we roamed the vineyard and played games aimed at getting kids interested in learning about the wine making process. Here we watched the Syrah grapes being processed. @bcnmoltmes #presstrip #familytravel #spain #vineyard A video posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 22, 2016 at 9:36pm PDT     How many @britmums bloggers can you fit on a banana boat in Calella? @bcnmoltmes #bmlcostabcn #familytravel #costabarcelona #spain #catalunya #watersports A photo posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 23, 2016 at 5:28am PDT     Friday’s lunch at NUI Beach in Calella ended with a stunning trio of sweets – summer fruits cheesecake, lemon chiffon and mini fudge cake #yum #bmlcostabcn #presstrip #bcnmoltmes @nui_beach @calellabcn A photo posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 26, 2016 at 9:57pm PDT     Anyone want to join me? This is Montseny in Costa Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain. It’s on the doorstep of Montseny Natural Park, and is an easy day trip from Barcelona. It has an excellent bakery, church and Fonda (like a gastro pub) #bmlcostabcn #presstrip #bcnmoltmes #costabarcelona #catalunya #spain #travel #familytravel #travelgram #espana A photo posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 28, 2016 at 10:57pm PDT     At the thermal baths in Caldes de Montbui, which is known for its therapeutic waters. The spa sessions include an hour soaking in the baths. In addition to areas to pitch your own tents, they typically offer bungalows, mobile homes and cabins. This site was near the town of Caldes de Montbui, which has the best preserved Roman Baths in Spain (and you can go to a spa to try the water too). #bmlcostabcn #presstrip #bcnmoltmes #catalunya #spain #travel #familytravel #igers #igersspain @elpasqualet A photo posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 29, 2016 at 10:48pm PDT     A memorable lunch at Casanova Beach Club in Castelldefels, Costa Barcelona. Castelldefels Castle dates back to the 10th century and is a good place for a family to visit. Just look at these views across to Barcelona! #bmlcostabcn #presstrip #bcnmoltmes @bcnmoltmes A video posted by Susanna Scott ~ travel (@amodernmother) on Sep 26, 2016 at 12:32am PDT  My flight, meals and accommodation were provided by Costa Barcelona.
