The Modern Family test drives a Prius+

PriusA big thanks to the lovely folks over at Toyota for lending us a Prius+ for a week as part of their #toyotaschoolrun campaign.

We had a great time using the car to cart a gazillion girls around to football practice and various other school-related activities.

I've wanted to drive a Prius since the Hybrid car was all the rage in California for getting drivers a coveted "yellow pass" for carpool lanes!* I'm also interested in green issues, and electric/hybrid cars are the future.

So how did we get on?

The things we liked:

-The seven seats! With five of us in the modern family, we really need a 7-seater as we always have a grandparent, friend, or extra kids to cart around.

-The 3rd row of seats was very easy to use (Easier than our current car!). You basically just push them down and pull up.

“Mum! Where are my shorts?”

I hear this shout from upstairs as I am rummaging through the fridge looking for something, anything, to put in the girls’ packed lunches. Underneath a pack of cheddar, I find some ham. It’s only a few days out of date. I smell it. Fine. Now I just can’t remember if we have bread…

Which shorts? I answer my oldest daughter, the 10-year-old; she has sports day this week. Actualy,it could be today? Did you look in your room? Try your drawers, I shout back. Most likely it is under the pile of clothing near her bed, which seems to keep growing. I must get on top of the laundry.

On haggis and Burns Night

I love my Scottish husband. I would do anything for him. Give up my career, spend my days wiping dirty bottoms, make endless meals from morning ’till night.

But I absolutely, resolutely refuse to eat haggis.

Never will a forkful of that oatmeal/lamb innards mixture pass my lips. I don’t care if it is a national dish. Or if my marriage depends on it. The thought of it makes my tummy turn.

I know this is not fair. I know that many people relish haggis, enjoy it even. Especially on the 25th of January, Burns Night, the birth date of the beloved Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

Charity shop challenge: the scarf or the necklace?

Charity black turtle neck scarf

Back at the charity shops again this weekend. I found this black M&S turtleneck (£5.99 at Oxfam). Plain, yes, but oh so versatile. But I can't decide. Do you like it with this tapestry scarf (£4.99 Oxfam)?

The Kodak Christmas Photo Craft Challenge

I am working on a project with Kodak through BritMums to help get the word out about Christmas crafts — using photos! I'd like to create a simple Christmas card, and I've found the perfect image! Looking through my iPhone, I found this photo I took last year, right after one of the big …

Coming soon: The Legoland Hotel

Legoland

The Legoland Hotel is coming! The park recently treated the modern family to a visit and gave us a quick peak at the building site. The Windsor hotel is conviently located at the edge of the park, and there are themed rooms (pirates, kingdom and adventure) and of course LOTS, and LOTS of Lego (including a pirate splash pool).
